Delighted to see this launch and looking forward to reading more. Re adverbs (as if anyone needed more proof of their deliciousness): I have long admired how exquisite "doors were sensibly shut" is—and not at all the same as "doors were shut," obviously.
Not to worry - I know enough about your writing to be looking forward to this ride.
I haven't read The Haunting of Hill House (though I've seen, and liked, the movie a bunch of times), but I'm thinking about the two "againsts" in the passage above: the house stands against its hills, and silence lies steadily against its wood and stone. The house is between a rock and a silent place? I should probably read the book.
This is nice. I felt odd about asking to be your friend on Facebook (so I didn't) but that means I can only speak to you in c. 240 characters and that's not always enough, is it. *watches Mr Dreyer shift awkwardly in his seat, clearly thinking 'that's plenty thank you...'*
Welcome to Substack! I look forward to following your literary and theatrical adventures here.

An adverb rather than a badverb ("'What would be nice?' Mr Hadley prompted, silkily").
Welcome, Benjamin. I am very happy to see you here.
Welcome to the newslettersphere! I'm not (mostly) on Substack but find me if you have any questions about what buttons do what.
Thank you, dear sir!
Welcome, Benjamin. Glad you’re here. I started mine a couple of years ago—writing was therapeutic while banging my head dealing with the pandemic.
This is going to be fun. If it matters, you have the honor of being the person who finally persuaded me to sign up for Substack.
My gosh! I feel as if I've been granted a delightful responsibility to be clever, or at least useful. (Or at least succinct.) Let's see how it goes.

I am glad to find you made it here!
❤️
oh how i've missed you since abandoning twitter!
I‘m late to the party, as usual. Different timezone usually gets the blame. But I am quite happy to find you here.
I'm happy to be found!
A fellow fan of Shirley Jackson and semi-colons!
All the better people, amirite?
